Welcome to the Campaign Website
South Lakeland Action on Climate Change was launched at Kendal Town Hall on 13 March 2007. The meeting followed a visit by Ricardo
Navarro the previous month as part of a national tour organised by the World Development Movement.
Present at the meeting were representatives from a wide variety of local groups, including the
South Lakeland World Development Movement, South
Lakeland Friends of the Earth, Green Party, Bay Sustainable Action Group, National Trust Environmental
Project and Tim Farron MP from the Liberal
Democratic Party. Also present were a large number of concerned local residents.
Aims of South Lakes Action on Climate Change
The key aims of SLACC are as follows:
- To increase awareness of local and global issues surrounding Climate Change and Peak Oil.
- To reduce South Lakeland's overall Green House Gas emissions and dependence on Fossil Fuels.
- To establish and support South Lakeland as a Transition District.
- To take every reasonable step to minimise the Green House Gas emissions resulting from the groups' activities.
